苗族民間的傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日較多，有苗年、四月八、龍舟節(jié)、吃新節(jié)、趕秋節(jié)等，其中以過苗年最為隆重。苗年相當于漢族的春節(jié)，一般在秋后舉行。為紀念湘西土家族苗族自治州成立，每年9月20日自治州成立紀念日，湘西自治州行政區(qū)域內(nèi)全體公民放假2天。

The Miao ethnic group has many traditional festivals, including Miao New Year, Siyueba Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Chixin Festival, and Ganqiu Festival, with Miao New Year being the most important one. Miao New Year is celebrated in late autumn and is equivalent to the Chinese Spring Festival. To commemorate the establishment of the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, September 20th is designated as the anniversary of the establishment of the autonomous prefecture, and all citizens of the Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture are given a two-day holiday.
